Saturday’s game between the Albany State Golden Rams and the Golden Bears of Miles College started at 8:05, a little more than an hour later than its scheduled 7p.m. kickoff time due to lightning and heavy rain.
Once the game got going, Albany State, powered by their rushing attack, which racked up 303 yards on the evening, was able to defeat Miles 30-24.
After neither team could accomplish anything on either of their first two offensive possessions, Miles converted their 9-play, 35-yard drive into points via a 33-yard Jackson Spradlin field goal.
Tyler Scott’s interception of Daniel Smith put the Rams in excellent field position and it only took Albany State one play to capitalize on the turnover. ASU quarterback Kelias Williams took it in from 3 yards out to, with the converted PAT, give the Golden Rams a 7-3 lead. Miles would get back in front with a 6-play, 47-yard drive that was completed with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Padarius Martin. The extra point put the Golden Bears up 10-7
Early in the third quarter, ASU needed a mere three plays to cover 72 yards, capped off by Kelan Fraise’s 20-yard touchdown, putting Rams back in front 14-10. Albany State would extend the lead to 11 , 21-10, following Tracy Scott’s 36-yard touchdown run.
Miles climbed back to within four, 21-17, with a Santee Marshall 8yard run that came at the end of a 9 play, 86-yard drive.
A 41-yard Gabriel Ballinas field goal stretched the ASU lead back to seven ,24-17, in the early going of the fourth quarter. Shortly thereafter, the lead was 13 , 30-17, following Kelias Williams’ 11 yard touchdown run. The extra point was missed, leaving the tally 30-17.
Miles climbed back to within six, 30-24, with a Marshall Santee 8 yard touchdown run but they would get no closer.
Next up for the Golden Rams( 2-3, 2-0 SIAC) is a trip to Salisbury, NC to take on Catawba College. Kickoff time for that game in 1:30 p.m. For Miles, they will also be on the road, this time they are taking on West Alabama. Kickoff time for that game is 6:00 p.m. CST.
